Steven Spielberg’s eagerly anticipated new series “Terra Nova” premiers this fall on Fox, but you don’t have to wait that long to get a look at the “prehistoric set” where the cast and crew are working hard on the explosive first season.
The Daily traveled to Queensland, Australia, for an exclusive tour of a set that re-creates a sprawling colony, built 85 million years in the Earth’s past after a fracture in time is discovered.
A towering security fence rings the colony, topped by guard shacks and manned sonic blasters.
Near the front gate, menacing six-wheeled armed transports stand ready, along with a smaller and more lightly armed version for reconnaissance and quick action.
Security troops casually mix with civilians in the sprawling markets just inside the front gate.
Giant skewered bugs, razor-teeth fish and barbecued tentacles are all on the menu.
Commander Taylor, played by Stephen Lang, the villain of “Avatar,” keeps watch over the settlement from an imposing tower to the side of the market.
Among his watch are newcomers Jim Shannon (Jason O’Mara of “Life on Mars”), a devoted father with a checkered past, and his wife, Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn), a brilliant doctor.
Their daughter, Maddy (Naomi Scott), and son, Josh (Landon Liboiron), quickly make the acquaintance of camp troublemaker Skye (Allison Miller), who has made a startling discovery in the nearby jungles.
