A dazzling collection of some 400 dresses and accessories that belonged to the legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor are going under the hammer in December at Christie’s auction house in New York, along with more than 200 of her magnificent jewels.
Taylor, who died on March 23 at age 79, amassed a trove of dresses by designers including Givenchy, Chanel, Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. The highly anticipated auction will include the wedding dresses Taylor wore when she married Richard Burton in 1964 and, once again, in 1975. The first of those frocks is expected to go for upwards of $40,000.
Highlights from the auction are currently on view in London, before they move to Paris, Dubai and Hong Kong, finally arriving in New York. The dresses will be auctioned off Dec. 14-15, and Taylor’s jewelry will be offered Dec. 13-14.
Some of the proceeds from the auction’s exhibitions will be donated to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
