The right stuff

Go into any outdoor goods store and you’re likely to find the shelves stocked with trail-running backpacks, which are perfect for the run-commute. The Daily picked out its three favorite backpacks for towing all your work clothes on your back.

NIKE CHEYENNE VAPOR RUNNING BACKPACK ($90)
It’s no secret that Nike has the leading technology in just about every sport, and the Cheyenne Vapor Running backpack holds up its end of the bargain. It’s just big enough for shoes, a notebook, all your toiletries, and whatever clothes you’ll be carrying. The Aerospan back panel helps with breathability and keeps sweat from seeping into your bag. The adjustable harness is comfortably snug and is easy to adjust on the run. If you’re willing to bear the extra load, there’s a laptop sleeve. And for the lunatics running to work in the rain, it has a packable rain cover stowed conveniently in its top zip pocket.

OSPREY MANTA 20 ($129)
Osprey is a big hitter among the backpacking and camping set, and this Manta 20 daypack is like the Ferrari of running backpacks with the comfort of a Cadillac. You’ll have to be economical when packing for work with this small bag, but with four separate pockets to house all your daily needs, you’ll have more than enough room. (Leave the iPad at the office, though.) The waist belt has easily accessible pockets (phone, sunglasses, energy gels) and there’s a clip on the back for a light, if you’re running home at night. What puts the Manta at the top of its class is a 3-liter water reservoir to keep you hydrated.

SALOMON XA 20 ($75)
The lightest in weight of the three, Salomon’s XA20 bag has breathable straps that offer stability as you truck along your local streets. With ample room — you could fit heels or Oxfords, no problem — and side pockets, you won’t have to leave anything necessary at home. The only downfall? The ventilation on the back is not geared to keep sweat away from the bag, unlike the Nike and Osprey, so you might want to put your button-down in a grocery bag so it doesn’t getting soaked with your sweat.
