Most people recognize Charlotte Gainsbourg, foremost, as a movie star. Others know her as the progeny of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. But she is also a singer in her own right. Her third album, “Stage Whisper,” came out last week. It is her second collaborative album with Beck, and a marked departure from her previous work. Despite the title, “Stage Whisper” is Gainsbourg’s loudest record; whereas in her earlier outings she was spectral, impossibly cool and typically French, she now sounds assertive and utterly in command — but still somewhere shy of rock ’n’ roll. Gainsbourg spoke to The Daily earlier this week from her home in Paris.
