Prada channels vintage roadsters – complete with tail fins - for new line of shoes

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

No accessories needed this summer, ladies — your pair of Prada leather heels with their hot rod flames and tiny tail fins should suffice for flash.

Fashion mogul Miuccia Prada injected her 2012 spring ready-to-wear collection with 1950s pizzazz, including her classic-cars-inspired shoe line.

The shiny new heels come in bold color combos like yellow, red and black or softer-palette mixes like pastel green, pink and white. Prada offers both stiletto and wedge styles, and she even made the slingback pieces that slip behind the heel reminiscent of a wing.

Car nuts will recognize the taillights of a 1959 Cadillac Sedan de Ville poking out the back. And her wedges with the silver and chrome lining are reminiscent of an old-school bumper.

For those hoping for more casual summer shoe wear, never fear — Prada hasn’t forgotten you. She provides flat leather sandals … albeit with hot rod flames jetting out the top and sides.

The 1950s theme is a departure from last year’s Prada couture, whose more spectacular creations featured a lot of diamonds and studs.

This year’s vintage-themed pumps will retail at $400 to $900.
