TICKET MIXUP DISPLACES FANS
There was another ticket controversy at a championship football game, a la the Super Bowl in Dallas. Dozens of fans arrived at the Superdome for the BCS title game to find their seats were taken for auxiliary press seating. The top two rows of the upper deck were turned into an overflow area for the media. Officials with the Sugar Bowl, who were in charge of hosting the championship this season, quickly found new seats for affected fans closer to the field. Sugar Bowl spokesman John Sudsbury said the bowl had an emergency relocation plan in place that accommodated all involved ticket holders.
COSTLY TD FOR BETTORS
Trent Richardson’s touchdown run late in the fourth quarter capped Alabama’s victory and was costly to some bettors. Betonline.com offered 20-1 to anyone who wanted to bet on the title game having no TDs. Four bettors took the bait, each to the tune of $250. The bets would have paid $5,000 apiece and were looking solid until … Alabama’s Heisman Trophy finalist took off on a 34-yard run with 4:36 left to spoil the fun. LSU kept its part of the bargain, in fact, the Tigers failed to score a touchdown in eight quarters plus the overtime when the teams first met Nov. 5.
TIME TO TALK BCS CHANGES
The Alabama-LSU rematch sparked much debate about the BCS title game. There will be conversation regarding the format today in New Orleans. “Everything you can imagine will be discussed,“ BCS executive director Bill Hancock said. “Everything from format, who plays who, to where they play.” Weighing in will be the 11 conference commissioners and Notre Dame’s athletic director. The plus-one format, which would see the Nos. 1 and 4 team in the BCS standings play and the Nos. 2 and 3 teams meet, is expected to come up. The winners of those games would play in the BCS championship game.
