If you’re wondering where your weekly paycheck disappears every month, you might want to check the coffee shop or sandwich place near your office.

American workers spend an average of about $37 a week buying lunch at work and more than $20 a week on workday coffee runs, according to a telephone survey of 1,000 employed Americans conducted at the end of 2011 by Accounting Principals.

Two-thirds of the survey respondents said they bought lunch, while half said they regularly bought coffee at work.

Men spent far more than women on both lunches and coffee, and young professionals between the ages of 18 and 34 outspent their 45-and-over counterparts.
