The leading organization of all things alcohol, the Distilled Spirits Council, crunched the numbers, and it’s official: Americans are thirsty.
Liquor sales rose 4 percent last year, with annual sales hitting $19.9 billion. Beer remains the biggest seller among alcohol in the U.S., representing 49.3 percent of the America’s consumption, but liquor once again gulped up some of beer’s market share.
Top-shelf brands did best, rising 8.9 percent as a group, with revenue increasing 15.9 percent for “super-premium” vodkas and 11.4 percent for top-quality bourbons and whiskeys.
