www.REI.com began one day in 1938 when Seattle mountaineer Lloyd Anderson sent away for a new ice axe. Upon picking it up, he got an unwelcome surprise: The axe was nearly twice the price advertised, and about half the quality. www.rei.com is a cooperative. Anybody can shop at Recreational Equipment Inc., but each of our active members shares a yearly patronage refund. Most years, refunds average about 10% of the full-price purchases made in the preceding year. Shopping online is safe, fun and secure. As the holidays approach, this is the way to go!
